Superbike
Episode 17
Season 1, 1984

Introducing: --
Let’s face it: Renee was pretty cute. She also had the emotional thing down pat. Therefore, an episode featuring Renee is either going to tug on your heartstrings or make you giggle and roll your eyes. Since this is a 1984 episode, it’s the latter. Apparently, she’s also been “green” from a young age.

Most of the kids have decided to go shopping and all but ignore Renee being excited about an old Beatles record she dug up from the back room. You guys remember records, right? Otherwise, I’m going to feel a lot like her here…anyway, at least she has Riley to sort of sympathize with. He’s thumbing through the classifieds, trying to find a cheap car. (Hold on to this part; it will be back.)
Renee continues to admire leftovers and the kids think she’s nuts.
Hey, it’s not easy being green. When they leave, she looks for sympathy from the junk – and actually receives it from an old bicycle (again with the Moosie guest vocals – couldn’t they recycle another actor?).
Not only can the bike talk, it’s got an attitude. It’s been around the block as well. Riley begins to think Renee’s nuts as he catches her while he’s walking home from work.
Too bad he doesn’t have that rich kid’s van about now.
Renee takes the bike to the garage and for a spin around the cosmos.

I’ve watched this episode several times now, and there is no sign of E.T. anywhere. Um, there’s also no sign of any wrenches. Just how old is this bike?
The rest of the kids return from their shopping spree and are surprised to find that you can repair a bicycle with streamers and pom-poms.
They are suddenly in love with the bike and the idea that you can fix something old instead of buying it new. End of episode.
No. Wait. Remember that lost plot point?
Yes, Riley. Just when you thought this episode ran short, there’s that little matter. Renee finally decides that Riley needs the superbike
more than they do so he doesn’t have to walk home anymore.
The bike is speechless.
I gave this episode 3.5 mics mostly because it’s a bit out there, even for this season. Nice PSA about recycling and taking care of your stuff, but I think it got lost. It is, however, cute.

- This is the first time Mario has more than just a speaking part - he sings part of "Cool it Now".
- They start out the episode doing the end of "There's No Stopping Us", have some dialogue, and then continue with a new song.
- Is this Moosie? Moosie did the vocals for a lot of inanimate (or dead) objects, but I can't tell if he's Superbike or not.
- You can see kids buying KI records
- I could swear Stacy already had that bag…
