Quite a few times while writing fanfics, I had a scene or two that didn't really fit, or made the story too damn long. I held onto these "deleted scenes" anyway, and I thought maybe you'd want to see them.
Ok, this is something from All's Fair in Love and War (1987) , but I took it out because all my fics are, well, Renee-centric, and I get flak for that. It appears during the second act, while the Kids are watching Tabitha eat, and contains another mention of Stacy/Kid teasing and helps separate Renee and Ryan some more...
"They're so cute and dopey when they're in love." Renee chuckled at a starry-eyed Riley.
"Oh, absolutely." Ryan agreed. "Like this one particular young lady that you and I both know...you remember what she was like?"
"I...I haven't the faintest idea what you're talking about." said Renee airily, twirling her hair around two of her fingers and not meeting Ryan's gaze.
"Oh, well, let me refresh your memory." Ryan grabbed a bunch of napkins in one hand and flung the other over his forehead dramatically. "He loves me, he loves me not...hi, guys...he loves me...oh, he loves me not...oh, Jules, you're so...Technicolor! Ohh..."
"Oooh..." Stacy and The Kid smirked knowingly.
"Have you ever wondered," Renee said calmly, "why your very first girlfriend was blind?" Everyone laughed as she assumed her own dramatic pose and in a slightly deeper voice, crooned to an empty chair, "Oh, Suzanne, can you tell by my voice that...I stuck my finger in a light socket to get this hair?"
"Ooooh!" went Kid and Stacy once more.
Ryan didn't want to succumb to the joke, but Renee'd hit him where it hurt. "That wasn't how it went." he mumbled.
"No, you're right," Renee admitted, "it was more like, "Oh, Suzanne!.." she began again in falsetto, and all three older kids exploded into laughter. Ryan growled and stormed backstage in a huff.
"That was cold, Renee." said Kid, not quite finished laughing. "Funny, yeah, but...cold!"
"Well, I didn't spend half my life at the mercy of you two for nothing." Renee smirked
As you can see, it wouldn't be fair for Renee to have the coolest lines in every story.
There's more where that came from, too. During my original 1990 season, when some of the original Kids returned, it created quite a few awkward moments, several of which I removed due to length. Once Mickey and Renee were actually having a conversation in Calling All Kids, leave it to me to resurrect a seemingly isolated incident from years past.
"How 'bout Stacy? What's going on with her?"
"She's fine." Renee said crisply. "What?" she asked as she noticed Mickey chuckling at her I'm-pretending-I-don't-care pose.
"You cut your hair."
Her hand subconsciously rose to the pert little shoulder-length bob. "Well, yeah - years ago!" she retorted.
"Hmm."
"Hmm?"
"Yeah."
"I finally did what you wanted me to do, and all you can say is 'Hmm'?"
"Yeah. Pretty much."
Renee exhaled sharply and became 10 years old again, as if nothing had changed. Just when Mickey was about to begin another conversation, she blurted out, "Well, does it look ok or not?"
